Every year, everyone and their mother comes up with a New Years Resolution. And probably 1 out of 10 people that come up with one actually follow through with it. I for one am guilty of this, but really.. who follows through with these? Usually, we pick the most unachieveable goals and tell everyone we'll follow through with it. Then, a week later, everything stops. No more gym visits, you're going back to Shell to get your Red's. I can't say i know a songle person that will follow through with their resolutions. I'd rather not make a promise to myself that I know i'm not gonna follow through with something that won't be attainable. Instead, i'll make smaller resolutions. Like making sure I keep my GPA in the 3's, and keep things sane around my house. As much as i'd love to go to the gym every other day and come out looking like Broly , I know for a fact that I wont stay motivated long enough to want to continue on with that. So keep that in mind folks, when you decide to create a resolution for yourself, make sure it's more attainable than anything. Enjoy your New Years!

END OF 2009 MUSIC REVIEW:

This year has been filled with alot of bullshit music wise, but I also came across a bunch of good shit this year. Here’s my list of the 10 best, in my opinion of course:

10.) Wale:”Attention Deficit" - The first couple times I heard this album, i was like what the hell is this. I was disapointed, because it sounded nothing like his mixtapes. But then, lyrically this is one of his best projects. 90210 is my shit.

9.) Stalley:”MadStalley” - This guy is a GFCNY affiliate and this entire mixtape was amazing. It had the chillest beats over some very impressive ryhmes. One of my favorite mixtapes by anyone really.

8.) BJ the Chicago Kid:”The New Begining” - This is an R&B EP from Chicago’s very own. Found out about him by watching Maestro Knows, he’s got a great voice and I can honestly say you guys will be hearing him on the radio next year.

7.) FENCES:”The Ultimate Puke EP” - This is one of the best indie projects i’ve heard in a veryvery long time. SO mellow and chill, this is definitely one of my favorites this year and I can’t wait for the album to drop, no word on the date though.

6.) Oceano:”Depths” - TRUE metalheads will know who this is. Chicago’s own Oceano is a 4 set group with a sound unlike most. They’re just as chill as they are talented, and they have some of the best breakdowns i’ve ever heard.

5.) Dom Kennedy:”Future Street/Drug Souds” - Psh, this wasn’t even his best mixtape and it’s still amazing. Coming out of Los Angeles with a sound that kind of reminds me of Ice Cube, this dude will be blowing up next yea no doubt.

4.) Mos Def:”The Ecstatic” - I was hyping this album up long before it came out, and i’m pretty sure i was the first person to pick it up. Mos Def has been on the forefront of concious rap for so long, and this album doesn’t disapoint. He has alot of cameos on here with heads like Slick Rick and Talib Kweli(BLACKSTAR, GET BACK TOGETHER!). If you havent peeped this yet, you need to.

3.) Atmosphere:”Leak At Will” - This is easily my favorite project by him since GodLovesUgly. Atmosphere’s songs are like stories, with the illest beats ever. This is a free EP too, but shit.. what music isn’t free nowadays. If you haven’t heard this, i seriously suggest doing so.

2.) Drake:”So Far Gone” - Now, i’m sure most of us ae tired of hearing tracks from this mixtape, but just hear me out. I know for the first month or so, I was bumping this shit hella hard. EVERY FUCKING TRACK, was just epic. We’ve ALL fell on the Drake train at one point. His music as of late is too commercial for my liking, but this will go down as one of the best mixtapes ever.

1. Animal Collective:”Merriweather Post Pavillion” Love this group. This album wasn’t like their previous projects, but by far it was my favorite album of the year. I can’t wait to see them live, whenever that comes!

for the first time ever

i laughed with my mother.
for the first time ever, i shared stories with my mother.
for the first time ever, i began a reationship with my mother.

i'm 20 years old, and i've only seen her a handful of times. she recently moved to durham, nc from her home in michigan to be closer to me, my brother and my father. when i found out my father was going up to durham just to see her, i was pretty upset. my mother has done absolutely nothing for me my entire life. barely any phone calls, and when she did come to visit, i didn't feel like i knew her. i went 20 years without really havng a other figure besides my grandmother. i've never had a mother to ask if i'm ok, or take me to the doctors, or walk me across the football field, none of that. i looked at the pictures she had from the last time i saw her.. it was so long ago. i fought back tears so hard when she opened the door. i wanted to yall at her, call her all the names in the book. but something told me not to. maybe it's just my kind heart.. or maybe it's just the fact that God tells us to forgive one another. i figure she had her reasons for pretty much abandoning me. whatever it is, i forgive her. thats my mother, the person who brought me into this world. i'm sure i'll see her more; my pops and her are working stuff out. sure, this shit will not be easy.. but it's worth a shot.

Rastafarian

Rastafarians believe in the Judeo-Christian God, whom they call Jah. In general, Rastafarian beliefs are based in Judaism and Christianity, with an emphasis on Old Testament laws and prophecies and the Book of Revelation. Allegorical meaning is often sought in the Holy Piby.

Jah was manifested on earth as Jesus, who Rastas believe was black, and Emperor Haile Selassie. Selassie is referred to as His Imperial Majesty or H.I.M. (pronounced “him”) and believed to still be alive - his death was a hoax and he lives in protection awaiting the Day of Judgment. Selassie is worshipped as divine. (Scriptural proof texts include Revelation 5:2-5, 17:14, 19:6, 22:16, Ezekiel 30, Psalm 9, 18, 68, 76, 87:4, Isaiah 9.) Rastafarians also honor Old Testament prophets like Moses and Elijah.

Rastafarians do not believe in an afterlife, 5 but instead look to Africa (called “Zion”) as a heaven on earth. True Rastas are believed to be immortal, both physically and spiritually, a concept called “everliving.”

An important Rastafarian concept is “I and I,” which is said instead of “you and I.” It emphasizes the oneness between humanity and God as well as the equality of all humans.

Another central concept is Babylon, which refers to the white power structure of Europe and the Americas. Rastas seek to resist Babylon, which once cruelly enslaved blacks and still continue to hold them down through poverty, illiteracy, inequality, and trickery. The greed and conceit of Babylon is contrasted with the humble simplicity and naturalness of the Rastas.

Practices

Rastafarians are perhaps best known for their religious use of marijuana, which grows plentifully in Jamaica. Rastas know it as ganja, the holy herb, Iley or callie, and believe it was given by God. Scriptural support is found especially in Psalm 104:14: “He causeth the grass for the cattle and herb for the service of man.” Other texts interpreted to refer to cannibis include Genesis 3:18, Exodus 10:12, and Proverbs 15:17. In addition to ritual use, Rastas also use marijuana for medicinal purposes, applying it to a variety of ailments including colds. 5

Marijuana is used primarily during the two main Rastafari rituals: reasonings and nyabingi. The reasoning is an informal gathering at which a small group of Rastas smoke ganja and engage in discussion. The ritual begins when one person lights the pipe, or “chalice,” and recites a short prayer while all other participants bow their heads. The pipe is then passed around the circle until all of the people have smoked. The reasoning ends when the participants depart one by one.

The nyabinghi, or binghi for short, is a dance held on Rasta holidays and special occasions (see below). These dances can last for several days and bring together hundreds of Rastafarians from all over Jamaica. They camp in tents on land owned by the host Rastas. Formal dancing takes place at night in a tabernacle especially set up for the occasion. The Rastas sing and dance until the early hours of the morning. In the daytime, they “rest and reason.”6

There are several Rasta holidays, most of which center around events in the life of Emperor Haile Selassie. The most important celebrations are:

November 2 - the coronation of Selassie
January 6 - ceremonial birthday of Selassie
April 21 - Selassie’s visit to Jamaica
July 23 - Selassie’s personal birthday
August 1 - emancipation from slavery
August 17 - Marcus Garvey’s birthday
One of the most visible practices of Rastafarians is the wearing of one’s hair in dreadlocks. Dreadlocks have several purposes and layers of meaning for Rastafarians, including:

the biblical command not to cut one’s hair (Leviticus 21:5)
the appearance of the lion’s mane, representing strength, Africa, Ethiopia, and the Lion of Judah
naturalness and simplicity, which are associated with Africa
the Rasta’s roots in Africa
The other main Rasta symbol besides dreadlocks, are the colors of red, gold and green. Red stands for the triumphant church of the Rastas as well as the blood of the martyrs in the black struggle for liberation. Gold represents the wealth of their African homeland and green symbolizes Ethiopia’s beauty and lush vegetation. Black is often also included, representing the color of the Africans. Another important symbol is the Lion of Judah, which represents Haile Selassie as the King of Kings, Africa, and strength.

The most observant Rastas follow a dietary law called Ital. Ital food is food which is completely natural (not canned and free of chemicals and preservatives) and eaten as raw as possible. Old Testament prohibitions against pork and shellfish are part of Ital; most Rastafarians are vegatarians or vegans. Coffee and milk are also rejected as unnatural.

Rastafarians reject the use of alcohol, since it is a fermented chemical that does not belong in the temple of the body and it makes a person stupid, thereby playing into the hands of white leaders. This is contrasted with the holy herb of marijuana, which is natural and believed by Rastas to open their mind and assist in reasoning.

"You may not be her first, her last, or her only. She loved before she may love again. But if she loves you now, what else matters? She’s not perfect - you aren’t either, and the two of you may never be perfect together but if she can make you laugh, cause you to think twice, and admit to being human and making mistakes, hold onto her and give her the most you can. She may not be thinking about you every second of the day, but she will give you a part of her that she knows you can break - her heart. So don’t hurt her, don’t change her, don’t analyze and don’t expect more than she can give. Smile when she makes you happy, let her know when she makes you mad, and miss her when she’s not there” — Bob Marley.

The Four Agreements

1. Be Impeccable with your Word
Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the Word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your Word in the direction of truth and love.

2. Don’t Take Anything Personally
Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.

3. Don’t Make Assumptions
Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.

4. Always Do Your Best
Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse, and regret.

I've been reading so much lately. I need to make a trip to the library, because I really want to read up and study other religons and cultures. I'm finding the simplest things in life right now so fascinating and I love it.

I Failed, For A Good Reason:

Chances are, if you're reading this blog regularly(thank you if you are), then your familiar with old music blog. I'd post songs and ep's, mostly hip-hop,with updates just about every hour. I got kind of tired of that, and started this one to be more personal than anything. I told myself i wouldn't post any type of music releases. Well, I lied!

Through MySpace(lol), i found out about a talented musician from Massachusetts named Christopher Mansfield. He's currently working on an acoustic project called FENCES and relesed an EP earlier this year called "The Ultmate Puke EP". This is some of the best music ive heard in a long while. I know that most of my followers are looking at more hip-hop or rap tha anything, but honestly, give this a try. It's a really impressive EP that i actually have on repeat right this second. Well, it's time for me to get back onto my other projects, untill next time folks!

13th Witness
Everyone knows how much of an art nut I am. I can even find something positive to say about someones work that normally wouldn't appeal to me. I guess you can say I have a true appreciaiton for real art. Anyways, i know some of you Hypebeast may know EXACTLY who 13th Witness is, but if not.. let me show you. 13th Witness is a professional photographer who shoots anything from comercials to promos for athletes. First came to see this man's work by mearly surfing the net. I've followed the work of Atiba Jefferson and Eric Acosta for some time now, and I'm pretty confident that I can add 13th Witness to this list. To see more of his work, hit his Flikr and Vimeo accounts.

i'd like to take the time out

to apologize to anyone i've ever done wrong.

ex's, my dudes in NJ/NC, i'm sorry.. for real

i've done some fucked up shit in my short 20 years of living, but honestly i don't regret anything i've done.. as fucked up as that may sound. i'm taking it all in as a huge learning experience for me; something i had to expeience in order to grow up a bit. to the girls that i have played lately, yeah you know who you guys are, i want to say i'm really sorry and mean that so sincerely and truthfully. NONE of you guys deserved this, out of all the girls i dated, you guys treated me right. each of you offered an amazing insight on life to me that i will ALWAYS treasure. so to those ladies, i'm sorry. i would love to still have you guys in my life at some point or one point in life, but trust me.. i understand if you dont.

and to my boys, who i definatly seem to underappreciate and take for granted, i wanna apologize as well. i met some real cool as dudes lately, and you all have been nothing but great to me. picking me up when i couldn't score my peeps car, paying for shit when i didn't have enough, taking me from A to B without hesitation, and the free weed haha. i'm sorry dudes, and i truly mean this. right now, theres no way for me to repay you guys, or truley show my appreciation for all of you. just know that theres changes being made, and it's not gonna be easy.. but damn it's worth a try.

the past 2-3 weeks has been a hellafied learning experience for me. i always think about the one person who would always be there for me, and be able to bring me up when i'm down, my grandfather. i thought about how disapointed he'd be in me, but also how happy he'd be if i just go back to the normal me. it's like, one small mistake turned into a huge nightmare, all because i let previous experiences influence my decisions. i've made more mistakes in my social life this past month than i have in.. ever

i love you all, and hope you take this.. letter as seriously as i am.

MUCHlove,
edison.

my 2 cents:

i decided to revise my "State of Hip-Hop" post, kinda like an essay.

and sorry for the lack of posts, spent the weekend in Atlanta.

Right now, hip hop is in hiding. Unless you’re familiar with the underground, you’re not really going to hear real hip hop anymore. People like Wu-Tang, De La Soul, J-Della, etc. remain unknown to this new generation of the DatPiff mixtape generation. This new generation fails to realize that the Rap artists out now were somewhat inspired by the past generations of hip hop and other genre’s.

In an interview I remember on Hot97 a few years back, Jay-Z once said that he doesn’t even listen to the hip-hop/rap genre, but states that music from the Motown Era, as well as other non-hip hop type genres. Charles Hamilton, one of the pioneers of this new mixtape generation of rap listens to artists like Placebo and Modest Mouse. My generation doesn’t seem to realize that other genre’s, as well as music from decades past are the reason that hip-hop/rap are around today. The roots of Hip-Hop goes back as far as the late 70’s, when New York artist began rhyming over heavy drum infused beats, thus beginning the new wave of music. Grandmaster Flash, DJ Kool Herc and The Cold Crush Brothers are some of just many of the founding fathers of Hip-Hop. Even the generation after that, The Native Tongues Movement, which consisted of artists like De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, and Dilated Peoples. Hip Hop continued to stay strong, even with west coast gangster rap, as well as the east coast version coming into play. Wu-Tang, is just one of many hip hop groups that thought outside of the box, and incorporated kung-fu themes into their music. Once the century turned over to the 2K’s, things began to turn downhill.

Labels began to become more commercial in signing artists that appealed more to gimmics and sales then the actual production of the music. People like Lil Wayne, Ja Rule and many many others busted onto the scene, moving away from meaningfull or truthful rapping, into a more fantasy or unrealistic version of rap. Music in general at this point took a turn for the worse. CD’s were beginning to become pretty much extinct due to the creation of sites like Napster and LimeWire. All labels cared about was having a face for their own benefit, and a sound completely different from anyone else. In my opinion, music became garbage at this point. But on a good note, more independent labels came about, which began the 2K’s version of the Underground/Indie hip hop movement.

Stones Throw, Definitive Jux, and many more independently run record labels were starting to become a lot more popular. These labels were a way for artists who wanted to keep the original purpose of hip hop alive in their music, and released music based on content and not the gimmics. Personally, I’m a big fan of underground music and I’m loving the direction it’s going in. Even when it’s artists seem to move away from the underground, they still keep their original purpose alive. Murs for example is the perfect poster child for staying true to their craft. He signed with Warner Brother Records in 2006 and began working on his Mur’s For President LP soon after; the theme of the album was all about keeping bullshit off the radio and keeping hip hop pure, and he wanted to be at the forefront of this movement. I’m a huge fan of his obviously for this reason, it may not have been his best work but the whole idea of the album was pretty genius.

But no-a-days, ( C )rap music all sounds the same. Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane, Yo Gotti, Waka Flocka Flames.. They’re all so similar in sound it’s ridiculous. They take mediocre instrumentals, and say just about anything as long as it comes close to rhyming. Now, that sentence may have sounded very biased, but I actually took the time out and listened to each of these artists most popular mixtapes thoroughly. I wasn’t impressed with Lil Wayne, but his music had more substance than the others. Southern rap is making it’s way into the mainstream, and to me it’s killing the music industry. It hurts to see the most deserving artist not able to get deals because they don’t look/sound a certain way. I wish this was just all a dream honestly, and that ATCQ and De La Soul will just get back together, and bring back true hip hop.. The single reason I began my music obsession. I’d like to thank artists of the previous generations for providing my ears with some of the greatest music I have ever heard. I can only hope that my generation will open their eyes and see the light, as my man Bobby Caldwell said.

MUCHlove,
edison

Taking A Break From..

Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Flickr, etc...

Far too time consuming, and i'd like to put all my hard work and concentration into my school work, my upcoming projects, and bettering myself. I've learned so much about myself in the past few days, so much more than I ever though I would. I need to concentrate on making sure i continue to mmake strides in the right direction to better my life for the good. So for now, you'll be seeing a larger amount of more personal posts as opposed to my random blurts.

Heading to Atlanta in about six hours, I'll be sure to post goodies.

random ranting vol. 1

R.I.P Hip-Hop?
What happened to good hip hop? Sure, i wasn't really at the age of appreciation when the genre's greatest acts were gracing the stage, but i still know what good music is. People like Wu-Tang, A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul for example are some of the greatest artists we will ever see.

*Wu-Tang Clan circa 1991*

My generation of "hip hop" will never be the same. Theres a select few of us who really know and appreciate our founding fathers, and realize that hip hop his more than just dope beats and clever hooks.. but that the genre developed from a generation of kids looking to stray away from their Motown-Era parents. If you listen to music from the early 80's , you can hear the influence of other genres in the way they delivered and the quality of the music. I feel like i'm ranting about nothing right now, but I love learning the history behind music, and i love hearing arists of this generation keeping that true sound alive.

Little Brother circa 2oo3

Compare Gucci Mane to Little Brother, and i'll bet you anything you'll understand what NaS was inferring to when he said hip hop is dead. But I don't think it's dead, i think it's in a recession.

good evening

i love how chill sundays are.

gives me time to do my thinking, and music making blah blah.

currently listening to Nujabes "Modal Soul" album. Strictly instrumentals with a hip-hop/jazz feel.. features samples from people like Curtis Mayfield and The Quadraphonics. Puts me in such a good mood, if you can stream it.. do that.

Thursday, November 19, 2009

my 2 cents:

i'm really sick of hearing people complain about the same shit.

especially girls and their guy problems. their first problem is they go after or back to the same type of guy... evey damn time. it's really annoying when girls ask me my advice, and go and do the exact oppostie. don't come to me if you're not gonna take my advice, i'm gonna keep it 100% wih you all the time peeps.

and i'm tired of seeing my fellow straight edgers forcing their views and opinions down peoples throats, and being violent as well. thats not what this movement was based on, it was based on living free of filth, not acting like filth. alot of you aregiving us a bad name, i'm pretty fucking sick of it honestly.

i'm done.

i'm in a good mood.

kinda.
i really wish i was up and about, making and performing music. i always feel like i could go somewhere with it.. i'm just lazy as fuck and don't know where to start. ahhh, i'll figure it out soon enough.

so:

people ask me all the time why i'm so "hateful" towards my generation of teens. it's not that i'm hating, it's just i've grown up. honestly, i could care less about spending X amount of dollars on myhirt, jeans and matching dunks anymore. honestly, all that money i spent.. i'll never be able to get back. my generation is stuck on the material posssions. no one really seems to appreciate anything anymore. it took me meeting a few cool, down to earth people that follow their "Minimalism" beliefs. minimalism is whenyou only go out and purchase/live with the bare necissesities, basically things that re essential for life. i think following this "trend" for lack of better words will help keep me sane, and not having to keep up with John Doe and his shoe collection. go ahead, take my dunks.. and my shirts.. and my g-shocks, i don't care. i don't need to impress anyone, whats the point? the same kids dropping all this loot on their apperance are usually the most uncomfortable with themselves.

Happy Halloween Peeps!

the state of the u.s.

i don't think people really understand that in order for the country to get better, we have to get worse. yeah, that means us spending more money and getting into a deeper deficit. i wish republicans would get over themselves and work on the country together, and not worry about maing Obama look bad. we're in troube if something isn't done sooner or later.

New York City, circa 2003, i made a trip with my older cuz to the Brooklyn Banks, one of the more famous skate spots in the East Coast. Anyways, the Zoo York crew was there for a demo, and i was in awe. I've never seen skateboarding at a level like this, but i was instanly hooked. Earlier hat day, i went out and got a little WalMart board. I was too embarassed to skate in front of the other guys, so ifound a little spot where i wasn't going to be spotted. I already knew how to cost, but i really wanted to ollie. After MANY failed attempts, i see this lack hand on my shoulder. It was Harold Hunter. He had on a big ZY shirt and this bustd Yankee fitted. He said, you need to jump while you pop.. I couldn't even say anything, i was in awe. He spent the next half hour showing me how to ollie, and when i got it down.. he told me stories about is old skateboarding days. That was the day i fell in love with skateboarding, and i thank him for that. When i found out he passed in 2006 of a cocaine overdose, my heart dropped. He was a hero, a legend. His saying was "Legends Never Die", so Harold Hunter's legacy must live on.

Unfortunatly i moved to North Carolina in 2006, so i haven't been able to go to the annual Harold Hunter Day BBQ/Skate meet. I plan on making a trip out there as soon as i can for this. Check out Hyoebeast's Harold Hunter Day article here.

drugs fucked up my life....

in 6th grade, a few friends introduced me to ciggarettes.

i liked them, i liked them alot. by the time i hit 7th and 8th grades, the rich kids at my middle school introduced me to marijuana… i liked that evern more.

in 9th grade, this girl introduced me to Oxy, i loved it..

in 10th grade, this girl introduced me to coke, and i fell in love.

between 6th grade and 11th grade, i was doing drugs on the regular. right before class, smoked weed. get coked up before football games. i honestly can’t believe i’m not dead. that was a hard part of my life, my dad was never around, my stepmom treated me like shit.. my grandparents moved.. and shortly after my wonerful grandfather and great grandmother passed. i had no other way to cope, my brother moved to North Carolina before i did, and my dad worked 20 hours a day. i spent days, in my familys second house.. alone, without food for most of them, or air conditioning. i had no friends close by, no family in the state. drugs was all i knew, and i loved doing it. it got to the point were i’d do anything for a high, i’d beat kids up for mney, i’d sell/grow my own shit.. i even robbed neighbors. the saddest point in my life.

a week ago, i talked to my grandmother about all this. it tore her up inside. i told her i still smoked, and i popped pills every so often. then, that same fucking night, on Nat. Geo, a documentary on Straight Edge kids came on. i always laughed at these kids, especialy because the scene kids kind of fucked up the whole true meaning of beig straight edge. after watching it with her, she looks at me and says, “those are the kind of people i can see you around”. i’ve always like Minor Threat and Have Heart, but ive never dabbled with the idea of being straight edge. but honestly, it’s definatly going to be one of the best decisions i’ll ever make in my life. so to all my followers on here, October 12, 2009 is the begining of the new me. im not going to force my beiefs down your throat, but today is th day i claim edge. this is a lifelong commitment that i’m going to follow.

Track Of The Day:

Gentleman Don't by Gabe Bondoc

"You’re the sun in the morning
I love it when you shine
I’m the one when you want it
Come get it anytime (Hey yeah)
Said it’s not something that money can buy (you know)
But it is something that I can give all night
You are precious so I”ll move what you ask
In an effort baby girl to impress
Cause I want to…"

freeze..
what is this..
this feeling i've never felt before
could it be?
is this it?
too hard to tell
emotions are scattered
i'm open to this..
this feeling of excitement..
this unknown feeling of lust..
could it be..
is she the one..
..or is this a dream?
pinch me...
because this feels too good to be true.

FuCkZ WiiT iT !

One of my favorite Alt. Rock groups, The Artic Monkeys hail from the other English speaking country. These guys have a sound unlike most bands i've heard, and it's good...obviously. Check them out! I'll leave you with my favorite song by them; Brainstorm. Enjoy, and head to FYE to buy their latest album, "Humbug".

Track Of The Day:

Water by Lauryn Hill (From MTV's UNPLUGGED 2.0)

Typical Late Nights

Just realized, the number one site I hit (aka: Twitter :]) isn't even up! But yes, this is what my school nights usually consist of.

Now, the news story about the famous street artist Shepard Fairey: the man behind "OBEY", is facing 6 months for vandalism. Yeah thats right, the legend may face jail time. I know some of you are like, who the fuck cares.. but this guy is the reason i take my art hella serious. He is the man behind "Wheatpasting" and alot of stencil-grafiti. He's been working on something for a museum in Boston, but plans were halted after his arrest. I'm hoping for the best.. the legend should not be locked up.

mmm :]

i know, it's an unlkely match. but it's an unikely match made in heaven!! :]]
"The door slammed loud and rose up a cloud of dust on us; Footsteps follow, down through the hollow sound, torn up"

THIS MADE MY FUCKIN NIGHT!

Track Of The Day:

Lips Like Suicide by Trencher

Woodstock:

Wow. If i had lived back in the 60's, i would have for sure been to Woodstock. For one, it was an era of some of the greatest music that I'VE ever heard; Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, and Arlo Guthrie just being a couple of those artists. Theres something about that era all together that just fascinates me. The art for sure. Everything back then had the psycadelic feel. Since hallucinagenic drugs were back then, the art was made for you to trip over, ie: tie dye designs.

Everything was about peace and equality. Even though these were back in the times of segregation, everyone that came here came together like family. Thats all that matters, good, chill people enjyoing some of the greatest music ever. The closest thing that my generation will have to Woodstock is fucking Warped Tour, which gets worse every year in my opinion. I don't know about the rest of you guys, but i think a Woosdtock revival should be in the works. :]

yes..

yess... we're back in action

The "Look"

I remember when i used to check Hypebeast and Karmaloop five times a day just to see the newest drops. I was a self-proclaimed hypebeast, copping every new sneaker, tee and denim i could get my hands on. It was an expensive obsession, but it wasn't me. Middle school was the time where i struggled to find my own identity, and i began conforming to the norm, listening to the same music, wearing the Phat Farms(hahaha) the whole nine yards. Even in high school, i had the newest SB's, the Stussy Drops and the 501's. I look back and laugh. That wasn't me. I was hardly ever comfortable in what i wore; the tight jeans being the only exception. Look at me now. I'm hardly ever dressed up anymore. My cut up flannel, Tom Sawyer denim and my busted ass Van's are what i feel comfortable in. Fuck the newest pair of SB's, i could give two shits about my G-Shock watches too. I'm doing me for the first time in my life, far from a trendsetter.
don't ever try to fix something that's already broken
once it's gone, it's gone
theres no going back...

Maestro Knows Episode 9

Maestro Knows - Episode 9 (Nike Campus) from Maestro Knows on Vimeo.

Maestro takes a tour of the Nike Campus in Portland, Oregon and tests the new Nike iD Hoodie program! I've been following Maestro's video blog since day one, always look forward to his new ones.

good morning

Yeah, finally getting into the swing of things with school. This is what i look like when i wake up..
I dread mornings, and even though i don't have to wake up nearly as early as the previous two semesters, it still sucks not being able to sleep until i feel like getting up. Anyways, i'm taking five classes this semester, Math, Eng/Red, Graphic Design, and Psych. Thoughtmaybe a full schedule would do me justice since the job search went flat. But let me say, i'm still in summer mode. It didn't hit me that school was back in session untill i saw my math grade recently, don't really wanna talk about it haha. Taking them all at the North Campus, away from all the bruh bruhs and parking commotion at Central. Hope this semester flies, it is so far. I'm just so ready for Savannah next year, i'll be taking classes actually worth taking. Well, enough of me blogging, off to Math i go!

if you love me, you'd hook me up :]

HEY CLICK THIS! :]

Track Of The Day:

Starlite by Panacea:

Definatly one of many hella dope tracks by this D.C. based Hip-Hop duo, composed of MC Raw Poetic and DJ Murdock. This song is off of there "Ink Is My Drink" EP which is dfinatly worth peeping.I found the album [finally] at Lunchbox Records in Downtown Charlotte.
my good friend Hbri got me craving some new vinyl, check out this beauty :]
There's something about these rare beauties that fascinate me. Could it be the artwork? could it be the influence of my musical idol J-Dilla? Whatever it is, i love it. My collection thus far only features a few Wu-Tang gems and a Time Machine cover. I'm ready to start stacking my crates, so i'm heading to Lunchbox Records in the NoDa district of Downtown Charlotte tomorrow afternoon. Consider this the begining of a healthy addiction. :]
incredibly goregous.. amazingly, beautifuly, unreplacable
when i'm with you
nothing else matters
all my problems
are forgotten when you're in my arms
you're my ticket away from the ordinary
the reason i wake up with a smile
you're the reason i live everyday to the fullest

when i'm not with you
i'm always thinking of you
and when i'm not thinking of you
i'm always speaking abou you
every little thing reminds me of you
our song
our first kiss
the day we met..
our first date.

you make me feel things i've never felt
i've never met anyone as perfect as you
i think about how ar we have gotten everyday
and how much further we will fall in....
