Harold Hunter

The man that was single handedly the most responsible for my skateboard addicition. New York City, circa 2003, i made a trip with my older cuz to the Brooklyn Banks, one of the more famous skate spots in the East Coast. Anyways, the Zoo York crew was there for a demo, and i was in awe. I've never seen skateboarding at a level like this, but i was instanly hooked. Earlier hat day, i went out and got a little WalMart board. I was too embarassed to skate in front of the other guys, so ifound a little spot where i wasn't going to be spotted. I already knew how to cost, but i really wanted to ollie. After MANY failed attempts, i see this lack hand on my shoulder. It was Harold Hunter. He had on a big ZY shirt and this bustd Yankee fitted. He said, you need to jump while you pop.. I couldn't even say anything, i was in awe. He spent the next half hour showing me how to ollie, and when i got it down.. he told me stories about is old skateboarding days. That was the day i fell in love with skateboarding, and i thank him for that. When i found out he passed in 2006 of a cocaine overdose, my heart dropped. He was a hero, a legend. His saying was "Legends Never Die", so Harold Hunter's legacy must live on.

Unfortunatly i moved to North Carolina in 2006, so i haven't been able to go to the annual Harold Hunter Day BBQ/Skate meet. I plan on making a trip out there as soon as i can for this. Check out Hyoebeast's Harold Hunter Day article here.
