My generation of "hip hop" will never be the same. Theres a select few of us who really know and appreciate our founding fathers, and realize that hip hop his more than just dope beats and clever hooks.. but that the genre developed from a generation of kids looking to stray away from their Motown-Era parents. If you listen to music from the early 80's , you can hear the influence of other genres in the way they delivered and the quality of the music. I feel like i'm ranting about nothing right now, but I love learning the history behind music, and i love hearing arists of this generation keeping that true sound alive.
Compare Gucci Mane to Little Brother, and i'll bet you anything you'll understand what NaS was inferring to when he said hip hop is dead. But I don't think it's dead, i think it's in a recession.
