preach brother preach

"There is no music more powerful than hip-hop. No other music so purely demands an instant affirmative on such a global scale. When the beat drops, people nod their heads, “yes,” in the same way that they would in conversation with a loved one, a parent, professor, or minister. Instantaneously, the same mechanical gesture that occurs in moments of dialogue as a sign of agreement which subsequently, releases increased oxygen to the brain and, thus, broadens one’s ability to understand, becomes the symbolic and actual gesture that connects you to the beat. No other musical form has created such a raw and visceral connection to the heart while still incorporating various measures from other musical forms that then appeal to other aspects of the emotional core of an individual. Music speaks directly to the subconscious. The consciously simplified beat of the hip-hop drum speaks directly to the heart. The indigenous drumming of continental Africa is known to be primarily dense and quite often up-tempo. The drumming of the indigenous Americas, on the other hand, in its most common representation is primarily sparse and down-tempo. What happens when you put a mixer and cross-fader between those two cultural realities? What kind of rhythms and polyrhythms might you come up with? Perhaps one complex yet basic enough to synchronize the hearts of an entire generation.”

trend?

The other day, i was browsing through the internet and noticed another rapper converted to Islam. Cool, not really news worthy i thought, but as i kept reading the article i noticed the number of rappers who are now Muslim has risen.

You might remember Loon, the rapper who made a cameo in Diddy's song "I Need A Girl". Well, i wouldn't call him Loon anymore..

Yes, that is the same guy. Loon has now changed his name to Amir Junaid Muuhadith, quit rapping andis now giving Da'Wa, or the teaching of Islam. He says hat Islam was the piece of mind he needed in life and is glad he found comfort in it. He's not the only mainstream Islamic artist. Busta Rhymes as also converted, and Philly freestlye rapper Freeway, who took a few years off to concentrate on is religion and participate in his Hajj, a pilgrimage in Mecca, Saudi Arabia that ALL muslims should do at least once in their life. But i'm wonderng if their is someone in the hip hop/rap industry that is "reruiting" converters, or if this is just another example of how hip hop artists are open minded people as well.. i'm open to everyones opinion so lets hear it!

Project365

Happy New Year Followers!
I Decided to bring in the New Year with a new project, it's called Project 365. This project is hella simple, take a picture of yourself everyday for a whole year. Sounds boring? Then make it not boring.

•Imagine being able to look back at any day of your year and recall what you did, who you met, what you learned… (Often we find it hard to remember what we did just yesterday or even last night, let alone a whole year ago!)

•Your year-long photo album will be an amazing way to document your travels and accomplishments, your haircuts and relationships. Time moves surprisingly fast.

•Taking a photo a day will make you a better photographer. Using your camera every day will help you learn its limits. You will get better at composing your shots, you’ll start to care about lighting, and you’ll become more creative with your photography when you’re forced to come up with something new every single day.

Decided to do something constructive with my 2010, since i'm devoting 18 credit hours into school this semester.. can you say, grind time?
