I think it's awesome when people know EXACTLY what heritage they are. For alot of people, this isn't as easy. For most African-Americans, the only records they'll have of ancestors is from records slave owners had, if they even had any. For people of other nationalities, this is alot easier. I was watching t.v. and Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates was on. He's really good with tracing back family genology. One of the coolest things I heard he did was find a book written thousands of years ago by an ancestor of Yo Yo Ma.
Being able to know where you came from is amazing. All I know is that on my fathers grandfathers side, i'm West Indian and on my grandmothers i'm white, black and indian. My mom is full blooded Italian but I don't know much about her. I think being able to trace your families geneology is an amazing thing, and if you're able to do it you should look into it. And if you have records of past ancestors, keep them and continue to pass them on to future generations.. everyone should know where they came from.
